Iris AB — Small Jumbo, Big Voice
The Iris AB is a modern classic in the making — a small jumbo with a whole lot of heart. Modeled after the iconic J-185, the AB is the fourth design to roll out of the Iris workshop and proudly carries the initials of co-founder Adam Buchwald. Built for players who want that wide-open, punchy sound with the comfort of a smaller-bodied guitar, the AB delivers projection, warmth, and clarity in equal measure.
With a solid Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides, the AB has a dry, focused tone that’s equally at home under a flatpick or behind a vocal. Scalloped Adirondack bracing keeps things lively and responsive, while the 25” scale length gives it a slightly softer, more expressive feel under the fingers.
Aesthetically, the AB leans into the clean, vintage-inspired vibe Iris does so well — tortoise binding, an understated rosette, and a satin nitro finish that’s smooth, open-pored, and ready to age beautifully. Hardware is rock solid and road ready: vintage-style brass open-back tuners with cream knobs, a bone nut and saddle, and a lightweight TKL case to keep it safe.
If you're chasing that sweet spot between the punch of a dread and the comfort of a smaller body, the Iris AB is a perfect landing place.
