For 2024, Kala continues its collaboration with Māori artist Sam Mangakahia on two fresh designs for The Voyage Collection. Etched in a soft ivory tone against rich mahogany, these floral patterns bring their themes to life: Resilient (Gardenia) and Resourceful (Hibiscus). Each ukulele includes a custom Voyage gig bag and a story card, so the meaning behind the artwork travels with you.

The Koki’o kea stands as a reminder to use what’s around us to uplift others. Native to the misty mountain forests of Moloka’i and O’ahu, this rare hibiscus has long been treasured for its beauty and versatility. Traditionally, it was woven into lei, used in medicine to detoxify the body, and even crafted into strong cordage for life on both land and sea.

Sam’s design celebrates this spirit of ingenuity and care—an enduring symbol of resourcefulness etched into wood and carried through music.
